Eagles soar past Sonics in Men’s U-23 Basketball

Eagles clawed past Sonics by a 70-65 score-line when the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) U-23 Championship continued on Saturday evening at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

Omario Ganeshdin top scored for the winner with 15 points, while Martin Edwards was the next best scorer with 14 points. Adding 12 and nine points apiece were Altin Joseph and Brandon McKoy. For the loser, the combination of Marvin Mars and Javon Vasconcellos tallied 15 points each, while Kevon Nedd netted 11 points.

The tone of the contest was established at the conclusion of the first stanza, as the Eagles unit secured a marginal 19-16 advantage. Sonics reduced the deficit at the end of the second stanza, outscoring Eagles 18-17 to enter the halftime interval trailing at 34-36.

However, Eagles responded in the third period as they extended their advantage to 53-45 after outscoring their opponent 17-11. The sizable eight-point lead acquired by Eagles proved to be the difference in the fourth stanza, as they were outhustled by Sonics 17-20.

The event resumes on Wednesday at the same venue.
