(Trinidad Express) Four men were fatally shot in an incident on Sunday night that began in Gonzales and ended in further bloodshed at the Port of Spain General Hospital.
The deceased are Abdul Williams, 31, of Rigsby Street, Gonzales; Kevin King, 30, of Rigsby Street, Gonzales; Jonathon Arjoon, 28, of Lange Street, Belmont; and Jayden Reyes, 21, of Leotaud Street, Gonzales.
Four other persons were injured in this incident, including a 20-year-old man who was shot in his legs; a 20-year-old soldier who was shot in his right eye; a 21-year-old man who was shot in both legs; and a 47-year-old woman who was shot in her right arm and thigh.
Police said that at about 7.15 p.m. on Sunday, a group of friends had gathered for a lime on Escallier Street, off Hermitage Road in Belmont, after playing a game of football when a white Nissan AD wagon pulled up next to them.
Several armed persons alighted from the vehicle.
Some witnesses claimed that the men were clothed in gear that resembled that of police tactical wear while others disputed this.
The suspects opened fire on the group of friends, striking eight persons – seven men and one woman. They then returned to the vehicle and drove off.
One man died on the scene.
The survivors of the incident notified the police and paramedics.
The injured parties were all taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital. However, unknown to them, they were followed by the suspects.
While the injured were seeking treatment at the Accident and Emergency ward, the armed men confronted the injured parties once again.
They shot at the group, sending medical staff and patients scampering for safety.
One man, who was part of the original party, suffered an additional injury to his face, police said.
This individual was later confirmed to be the 20-year-old soldier – a relative of Reyes who was fatally shot.
However, no other individuals other than the persons who were brought in were targeted or injured, police told the Express.
The suspects then fled.
A white Nissan AD wagon, which matched the description from the original incident, was seen leaving the hospital with a group of men.
King sustained additional gunshot wounds and died.
Reyes and Arjoon died while undergoing treatment at the medical institution.
Officers from the Port of Spain Division, the Homicide Bureau, and the Inter Agency Task Force, among others, responded.
The scene where the shooting took place was cordoned off.
However, operations were allowed to continue at the hospital.
