A family of Adventure Village in Region Two is still in shock after the head of the household was shot and robbed by masked men.
On Monday night at around 22.30 hours, Charran Ragoobeer, 46, a well-known bus driver, was returning home from a funeral when two masked men, one of whom was armed with a gun, approached him as he was about to enter his home.
The bandit took the man’s two gold chains and a gold ring, with a total value of almost a million dollars. The incident occurred around 22:30 hours at his Adventure resident.
The assailant approach-ed Ragoobeer and fired three shots, hitting him in the foot before escaping with the valuables while Ragoobeer’s wife and children witnessed the entire ordeal.
Kamalwattie Ragoobeer, his wife, said she and her son saw everything. She recounted hearing the loud noise and her husband shouting “thief, thief!” When they peeped out, they saw the gunman.
“We were very scared and we are thankful they didn’t come in on us, I am so worried over this and we are scared. I don’t know what they want with our family” the wife lamented.
Her husband fell to the ground as the bandits escaped and they rushed to his assistance. His foot was bleeding profusely from the gunshot wound and they immediately called the Suddie Police Station. Although the police arrived quickly, the masked men had already fled the scene.
Ragoobeer is currently at the Suddie Public Hospital nursing a gunshot wound. Police recovered a 9mm shell in the yard and are continuing their investigation.
