Walton-Desir slams hasty cancellation of foreign relations committee meeting

Amanza Walton-Desir

The planned meeting of the Parliamentary Sectoral Committee on Foreign Relations, scheduled for yesterday was unexpectedly called off just an hour and a half prior to its commencement with no alternative date proposed, according to Shadow Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amanza Walton-Desir.

Attempts by Stabroek News to elicit a comment from  Minister of Foreign Affairs Hugh Todd on the cancellations were unsuccessful.

In a statement, Walton-Desir noted the inconvenience caused to attendees like Ronald Cox, M.P., who made the journey from Mabaruma, Region 1, only to be met with the abrupt cancellation. She noted that Region 1 stands on the frontlines of various crises, including those stemming from the ongoing migration issues, making Cox’s trip not just symbolic but deeply significant.
