Guyana’s leading cyclist, Briton John of United We Stand, will lead a six-man team to neighbouring Suriname and French Guiana at the Grand Prix L’Ouest, which is slated to commence on Saturday and conclude Monday.
The event, which starts in the Surinamese capital of Paramaribo on June 8, is the second edition of “The Race of the West’ and will see the Guyanese up against teams from Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana, and Suriname.
The six-man team led by John will consist of Kwame Ridley, Cortis Dey, Aaron Newton, Mario Washington, and Alex Mendes.
The Grand Prix will see the cyclists compete across four stages in the two countries. Stage one, which is a 90-mile route, will begin in Paramaribo, Suriname, and finish at the country’s border with French Guiana.
