A Corentyne motorcyclist died after he reportedly swerved into an incoming lorry along the Corentyne Highway yesterday afternoon.
Dead is Frederick Schneider, 57, of Lot 95 Friendship Village, Corentyne.
The accident which reportedly happened around 3 pm along the Number 36 Public Road, Corentyne involved Schneider on motorcycle CL-1892 and motor lorry GJJ-6506 driven by Howard Barlow, 58, of Number 78 Village, Corentyne.
Police last evening said that initial investigations revealed that the motor lorry was proceeding south of the Number 36 Public Road when it was alleged by the driver that he observed the motorcyclist who was proceeding in the opposite direction make a sudden swerve into his path.
The driver of the lorry then pulled west to avoid a collision but despite his efforts, the front of the motorcycle collided with the left side of the lorry.
As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist fell on the road and suffered injuries.
He was picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The lorry driver has since been placed under arrest as part of the investigation.
