Contrary to the claims made by Region 10 Chairman, Deron Adams, in a news article published by News Source GY, the Ministry of Agriculture yesterday said that the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) has, over the last four years, executed a series of drainage and irrigation works in Linden and other parts of the region.
It is clear that the Regional Chairman is prioritising petty politics over the welfare of the citizens he is sworn to serve, and that is something the Irfaan Ali-led- administration chooses not to tolerate or condone, the ministry said.
While in its role and mandate, the NDIA has executed a series of critical and effective projects aimed at upgrading and improving Linden’s drainage and irrigation infrastructure, the ministry said that it is the responsibility of the regional authorities – the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) – to maintain these channels, a responsibility which the municipality and RDC of Region Ten have failed to do. Their incompetence ultimately and unfortunately resulted in the flooding of several communities in Linden, the ministry charged.
The requests documented in the letter for assistance with drainage and irrigation works and sent to the Minister of Agriculture, which was shared with the media, were all honoured. Furthermore, while those requests were honoured, it should be noted that no follow-up or additional requests were sent following the commencement or completion of those works, the ministry added.
Below is a list of works done in Linden, Region 10, for the period 2020 to 2024, the ministry said.
