Local NGO, Policy Forum Guyana, has announced the launch of its 1.5 Lifestyle Starter Kit, coinciding with the global observance of World Environment Day which was observed on June 5, a release from the organisation stated last week.

This groundbreaking initiative, it explained, is designed to ignite a movement among Guyanese citizens towards embracing eco-friendly practices and curbing global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.

Policy Forum Guyana (PFG) is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that was established in 2015.  It focuses primarily on accountability and transparency issues related to natural resources, climate change, and extractive industries whilst promoting environmental education through the 1.5° lifestyle.

According to the release, the debut of the kit signifies a significant milestone in Policy Forum Guyana’s ongoing commitment to promoting a 1.5 lifestyle. It builds upon past successes such as the “Change Lifestyles Not Climate” pledge and the innovative “Glass-It-Up Competition”, which have fostered environmental awareness among organisations and youth alike.

The meticulously crafted 1.5°C Influencer Kit offers an array of eco-friendly items aimed at empowering individuals to reduce their environmental footprint and embrace a lifestyle in harmony with the 1.5°C climate target.

One highlight of the occasion was the ceremonious presentation of the kits to 12 influential personalities. These included Elsie Harry, Romario Hastings (Kapohn), Nicolette Fernandes, Gabriel Gilkes, Dr Dave Lalltoo, Shemina Peroune, Nuriyyih Gerrard, Joel Simpson, Sonia Noel, Aruna Sukhdeo, Shamola Ally (Mola), and Matthew Gaul.

These individuals, the release pointed out, representing diverse backgrounds including individuals with disabilities, Indigenous leaders, LGBTQ+ advocates, pageant queens, and prominent sports personalities, are the first recipients of the kit in Guyana.

Over 50 attendees turned out for the launch event including representatives from the diplomatic corps, other NGOs, and international organisations. Key partners such as Teleperformance Guyana, Darthan Investments, Jars Zero Waste, EcoDen, Survival Supermarket, Fragrance De-lite, Khayr Refillery, Suri Trading, and the National Library, were acknowledged as having played an integral role in realising this endeavour, the release added.

Anyone interested in obtaining a 1.5 Lifestyle Kit or any campaign items are encouraged to reach out to Policy Forum Guyana.
