A 40-year-old driver was arrested by the police after he was found with 2,050 grammes of marijuana, during an intelligence-led operation near the Demerara Harbour Bridge on Friday night.
According to a police press release, at about 21:30 hrs, ranks observed a silver-grey Toyota Premio car (#PNN 7493) proceeding east in the vicinity of the Demerara Harbour Bridge. The driver was subsequently stopped and asked if he had anything illegal in his vehicle, to which he replied that he had “some weed”.
Ranks searched the car and found a black plastic bag containing two parcels of leaves, seeds, and stems of marijuana. The driver was informed of the offence committed, cautioned, arrested, and escorted to the Providence Police Station.
The parcels were weighed and amounted to 2,050 grammes. The driver remains in custody and is slated to be charged.
