Goals galore as Waramuri, Santa Rosa advance in U-14 football

-defending champs clinch round of 16 berths

The third and final round of matches in the group stage of the ExxonMobil U14 Schools competition were played on Saturday at the Ministry of Education Ground, Carifesta Avenue, and saw goals galore as the usual suspects turned in sublime performances.

Defending female champions Waramuri Primary Top thrashed Carmel Secondary 7-0 to further strengthen their title defence and book progression to the round of 16.

Erika Harris was the star of the show, hitting the back of the net three times in the second, 16th, and 25th minutes, while Nickisha Williams bagged a brace in the 14th and 27th minutes. Darwina Boyal and Brentia Marks were the other players on target for Waramuri, scoring their goals in the fifth and 29th minutes, respectively.

Waramuri’s rival Santa Rosa was also ruthless on the day, dispatching Abram Zuil 9-0. Veronica Chatta was clinical in front of goal, scoring five times (4’, 5’, 6’, 24’, 29’) in a thoroughly one-sided affair. Not to be left out, Maria Atkinson netted a hat-trick (16’, 22’, 26’), while Anelisa Robinson (28’) also got her name on the score sheet.

Meanwhile, the defending male champions, Bartica, romped to a 3-1 win over East Ruimveldt, with Jadan Christian leading the charge with a pair of goals in the third and 11th minutes. Bartica’s other goal came from Garfield Jones in the 17th minute, while East Ruimveldt’s lone consolation goal was scored by Jadan Abrams in the 27th minute.
