Twenty-three-year-old Paulette Edwards’ fiancé, Silus (only name given), was arrested by police in Baramita, Region One, for questioning in relation to her murder.
Her headless body was discovered last Friday in a state of decomposition in Catwalk, Port Kaituma.
Silus was arrested by police yesterday and will be handed over to police in Port Kaituma for further investigations. The headless body of Edwards, of ‘The Hole’ Matthews Ridge, was found on Friday.
The head was found on Saturday and later identified by a police officer known to the family. This newspaper learnt that Edwards, a mother of three and a sales representative at a Chinese supermarket, had apparently suffered physical abuse at the hands of Silus with whom she had been in a relationship with for about a year.
Meisha Glen, Edwards’ cousin, told Stabroek News that last Tuesday Edwards and Silus visited Matthews Ridge where they attended court for a domestic violence issue. Silus was expected to be charged, she said, but Edwards asked the magistrate to be lenient with him.
A truck driver who is also known to the family said that he transported the couple to Port Kaituma early last Wednesday morning, Glen explained.
