Candidate Master (CM) Taffin Khan stayed unbeaten across nine rounds of chess matches against all comers to retain his title as the Guyana Chess Federation’s (GCF) National Chess Champion.

When the New GPC Inc. Sponsored Championship continued on Saturday and Sunday at the National Racquet Centre on Woolford Avenue, CM Khan saw off challenges from Candidate Master Ronuel Greenidge, Roberto Neto, Justino DaSilva and FIDE Master Anthony Drayton to clinch overall victory.

Facing Drayton in the ninth and final round on Sunday, Khan saw him off, consigning FM Drayton to second place overall.

Khan who had two draws and seven wins finished with 8 points while Drayton was second with five points.

This is Khan’s second consecutive title win, cementing his place as Guyana’s leading chess player.

Later this year, the Junior Championship is slated to be held, after which the presentation of prizes for the women’s and men’s Championships will be handed over at an official ceremony.
