…as GTA Doubles Tourney continues
The Guyana Tennis Association (GTA) Doubles Championship continued on Sunday night at the National Racquet Centre, Woolford Avenue with three matches.
Among the matches, the reigning Mixed Open Doubles champions, Kizzy Richmond and Leyland Leacock turned in a solid performance to see off the pair of Justine Kennedy and Benjettan Osborne. To the latter pair’s credit they provided a stern challenge in the first set pressing Richmond and Leacock to deuce, however, the reigning champions’ experience showed and they emerged 7/6 victors. The second set saw a more straightforward 6/2 win for the champs as they sealed progression in the championship.
Meanwhile, in the Men’s 35 and Over Doubles segment, Adam Alves and Fiaz Yamin erased a 2/5 final-set deficit, and saved two match points to beat Delon Fraser and Surendra Khayyam 4/6 – 6/2 – 7/5, marking their progression as well.
On the other hand, Renola Jordan and Gavin Lewis advanced to the Mixed Open Doubles semifinal by defeating Nkechi McPherson and Seanden David-Longe 6/0 – 6/4.
The championship continues over the upcoming week with the finals slated for June 16.
