Canje fire leaves mother of three homeless

A fire at Betsy Ground, East Canje Berbice has left a single mother of three contemplating her next move and taking up residence in a small shop-like shack in the yard where her house was once located.

On Sunday morning a fire of unknown origin completely destroyed the flat one-bedroom house which measured about 22 feet by 20 feet located on Lot 53 Betsy Ground Village, East Canje Berbice where Dian Gobin, 34, resided with her three small children ages 7, 5, and 3.

According to Gobin, around 8.30 am she got her children dressed and sent them off to a nearby church after which she left to have her electric bike repaired at another village in Canje.

However, before she could arrive at her repair shop, she received a phone call telling her that her house was on fire.

Rushing home back immediately, Gobin saw her entire house in flames as such she was not able to save anything.

According to her, although the house was small it was stocked with everything including a refrigerator, gas stove, washing machine, furniture, microwave, television and household furniture among other items.

As of yesterday, Gobin, who had taken up abode in a small shop located on the premises, said she was still contemplating her next move as she was unsure where to turn for help.

She is seeking help from the general public and can be contacted on telephone number 643-5756.
