The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the World Bank, on Monday commissioned a new digital X-ray unit at the Fort Wellington Hospital in Region Five.
This state-of-the-art unit, valued at 97 million dollars, is poised to significantly enhance imaging services within the region, a release from the Ministry of Health said.
During his keynote address at the event, Dr. Frank Anthony, Minister of Health, highlighted the transformative impact of this initiative on the healthcare sector.
“It’s not just about talking improvement; it’s about making the investments to elevate the quality of care we offer,” stated Anthony.
“Previously, inaccuracies with the old system often required multiple imaging attempts. Now, with the advanced capabilities of this new equipment, we can capture several images and utilise various features to enhance image quality for accurate diagnosis,” he said.
The event saw attendance by several key officials, including Regional Health Officer Dr. Theresa Sarju, Regional Chairman Vickchand Ramphal, World Bank Representative Diletta Doretti, Coordinator of Indigenous Peoples Communities Michael Gouviea, and Deputy Director of Regional Health Dr. Ravindra Dudnauth.
