The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) yesterday announced the national squad that will represent the country at the upcoming Cricket West Indies (CWI) Rising Stars Women’s U-19 Regional Championship, with Realanna Grimmond selected as the captain.
Grimmond’s deputy will come in the form of spinner Niya Latchman. Together, the pair will lead an impressive side that performed at a high level during the last edition of the tournament.
The Guyanese finished in the runner-up spot last year, missing out on the title after being edged out by eventual winners Jamaica, despite being tied at 16 points.
This year, the squad sees the return of experienced players such as Trisha Hardat, Naomi Barkoye, Tiea Isaacs, Crystal Durant, and others who will be anxious to go one step further in capturing the trophy.
According to a release from the GCB, the ladies “will wing out for Trinidad and Tobago on June 30, with the women’s tournament running from July 2-14”.
The squad reads: Realeanna Grimmond (captain), Naomi Barkoye, Niya Latchman (vice-captain), Tilleya Madramootoo, Trisha Hardat, Laurene Williams, Denelle Lindee, Crystal Durant, Brianna Samaroo, Shonette Belgrave, Tiea Isaacs, Danellie Manns, Tremaine Marks, and Latoya Williams.
The standby players are Aaliyah DaSilva, Qzel Sampson, Daniela Hicks, Areah Ally, Aneesha Chetram, and Cianna Barkoye.
Meanwhile, Clive Grimmond and Tremayne Smartt will serve as the coach and manager, respectively.
