The Guyana Women’s Team will compete in the Pan American Hockey Federation (PAHF) Challenge, which is scheduled for Hamilton, Bermuda, from September 20th-28th.
This was disclosed in a press release from the Guyana Hockey Board. According to the correspondence, the competition serves as a qualifier for the 2025 PAHF Cup in Uruguay, noting that six nations will compete for the solitary participation berth.
The other competing teams are Bermuda, Brazil, Jamaica, Peru, and Mexico. The release stated, “Of the six teams, Mexico is the highest-ranked team listed as #37 in the world, followed by Peru as #41, Brazil at #54, Jamaica at #67, Bermuda at #68, and Guyana at #70.”
Guyana’s previous participation in the tournament occurred at the 2011 edition, where they finished as runners-up to Uruguay in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The provisional 25-member squad, which will be under the guidance of head coach Philip Fernandes, comprises goalkeepers: Alysa Xavier, Empress Charles, Jessica Mittelholzer, Keziah Johnason, and Sarah Harry; defenders: Julia Gouveia, Kezia Chinian, Kirsten Gomes, Kazaquah Uzzi, Makeda Harding, Tekeisha Deleon, and Trisha Woodroffe; midfielders: Charlia Webb, Clayza Bobb, Gabriella Xavier, Kenisha Wills, Madison Fernandes, Sarah Klautky, Temmara Clarke; and forwards: Abosaide Cadogan, Carolyn Deane, Chantelle Fernandes, Makaylah Poole, Princessa Wilkie, and Samantha Fernandes.
