National swimmer Raekwon Noel will represent Guyana at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, scheduled from July 26th to August 10th, after being granted a universality berth in the discipline.
This was confirmed by a source close to the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. According to the source, Noel acquired the berth based on having the highest FINA points amongst active local swimmers.
Noel became a household name in the English-speaking Caribbean region after clinching five gold medals en route to shattering five nation records at the 2023 Carifta Swimming Championships.
This will be Noel’s first appearance at the prestigious games. He is the second athlete to confirm their participation after national table tennis player Chelsea Edghill acquired a ‘wild card’ berth.
