Linden Benjamin, a 56-year-old resident of River View, Ruimveldt, Georgetown was on Wednesday fined for supplying a prohibited item to a prisoner.
The police said in a release that Benjamin was arrested on 2024/06/10 at the Lusignan Prison, East Coast Demerara for supplying the article to the prisoner. He appeared on Wednesday in court to answer to the charge.
The matter was heard at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Fabayo Azore.
The accused who pleaded guilty, was subsequently fined $70,000 or 2 months imprisonment.
Benjamin was arrested with an Alcatel cell phone and charger stashed in a bucket of chicken he was attempting to take into the Lusignan Prison during a visit to his son Linden Benjamin Jr., who is incarcerated on a charge of murder.
