President Irfaan Ali should cut his wages to private sector minimum wage. This is because he is asking Guyanese to live on minimum wage when he himself is living on a lavish wage of about 25 times the private sector minimum wage.
Cutting his wage to minimum wage sends a strong signal that he himself is willing to “struggle” to make ends meet especially in this higher cost of living crisis. I do understand that being President on minimum wage is not the same as being an ordinary Guyanese worker on minimum wage as being President has some perks (benefits) as well. But if President Irfaan Ali can make ends meet on private sector minimum wage, then Guyanese will applaud him for his frugality.
Guyanese Citizens will understand that he goes through this “struggle” to make ends meet as opposed to having his lavish wage. The whole idea behind this concept is that the President will have an epiphany of how the high cost of living is affecting ordinary Guyanese Citizens.
