Georgetown Football League
The defending champion Beacons were held to a 1-1 draw by Order and Discipline (O&D) when the Georgetown Football Association Senior Men’s League continued at the National Training Centre, Providence, East Bank Demerara.
Veteran forward Anthony ‘Awo’ Abrams broke the deadlock for the Beacons unit as he etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 15th minute. It proved to be the only conversion of the first half. However, O&D would earn a share of the spoils in the form of Ishmael Glen, who netted in the 64th minute.
Similarly, Pele and Riddim Squad played to a 2-2 stalemate. Pele secured the early advantage as Tyrell Henry found the back of the net in the 24th minute. However, the Riddim Squad outfit responded in the form of Kester Alleyne, who restored parity to proceedings in the 38th minute.
Pele then restored their initial advantage moments before the conclusion of the first stanza, as Joshua Bentick netted in the 43rd minute. Nevertheless, Riddim Squad would equalise in the dying embers of the contest, as Kelvin Gordon made his presence felt in the 90th+5 minute.
The event, which will be played on a one-round basis, features nine competing teams. They are: Eastveldt, Northern Rangers, Black Pearl, Vengy, Beacons, Order and Discipline, Riddim Squad, Pele, Camptown, and GFC.
The winner of the event will pocket $500,000 and the championship trophy, while the second, third, and fourth-place finishers will receive $300,000, $200,000, and $100,000, respectively, and the corresponding accolade.
