Retrieve Raiders douse Block 22 Flames

…as LABA Men’s League continues

Action in the Linden Amateur Basketball Association’s (LABA) Senior Men’s League continued on Thursday night at the Retrieve Hard Court, with home side, the Retrieve Raiders dousing the Block 22 Flames 44-33.

Initially scheduled for Wednesday night, the clash had to be played on Thursday instead due to torrential rainfall, however, the postponement did not affect the Raiders who led every quarter of the game in a  dominant display. By the end of the first quarter, the Raiders had a 12-7 lead, then 25-20 at halftime. The third quarter saw them pulling away 34-24 before fulltime signaled the 44-33 win.

Shemar Savoury led the way for the winners with a game-high 15 points and was supported by John Anthony who had six points.

Meanwhile, the Flames best performers were Leon Joseph and Jonathan Clarke who scored 8 points each.

The first round of the League concludes tonight at the Amelia’s Ward Hard Court from 6 pm with two games scheduled. In game one, Block 22 Flames will look to revive their campaign against home team, the Amelia’s Ward Jets while game two at 8 pm will see the Victory Valley Royals clash with the Central Mackenzie Kings.

At the end of the round-robin stage, the top four teams will advance to the semifinals.

Currently, Victory Valley Royals have accumulated 9 points from three wins while the Retrieve Raiders are on 8 points. Amelia’s Ward Jets have 7 points with Block 22 Flames closing out the current top four with 5 points. Central Mackenzie Kings are on three points at the bottom of the heap.

Nigel Hinds has donated $200,000 for the tournament to the LABA. The winners will receive $100,000, 2nd place $75,000, 3rd $50,000 and fourth $25,000 along with trophies.
