Quartet charged over firearm, ammo find at Cotton Tree

Police have arrested four persons in connection with the discovery of a firearm and ammunition at Cotton Tree Public Road, West Coast Berbice.

The defendants, Winston Julian Mendonca, 30, a conductor of Lot 406 Union, West Coast Ber-bice; Patrick Roach, 30, also known as ‘Strokie’, driver of Number 30 Village, West Coast Ber-bice; Shakeel Lawrence, 25,  a labourer of Lot 32 Bent Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown; and Isaiah Rodwayen Griffith, 20, also known as ‘Rod’, a labourer of Lot 206 Pike Street, Number One Canal, West Coast Demerara, all appeared on Friday at Weldaad Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir, where they were jointly charged with possession of firearm without a licence and possession of ammunition without a licence.

According to a police report, on June 12, a .32 Taurus pistol and one round of .32 live ammunition was discovered at the aforementioned location.

All the defendants pleaded not guilty and were remanded to prison.

The cases were postponed until Tuesday, June 18, and transferred to Blairmont Magistrate’s Court for status on pending investigations, fixtures, and report.
