Guyana Livestock Development Authority (GLDA), Chairman Madanlall Ramraj yesterday said that sabotage was suspected in the damage of a quantity of duck eggs at its hatchery but he refuted claims made by the APNU+AFC on their Facebook page that the figure was 30,000.
Speaking with the Sunday Stabroek, Ramraj clarified that while an assessment is underway, the reported figure of 30,000 damaged eggs is inaccurate. He said that a detailed report is currently being compiled to provide clarity on the situation.
The incident, according to Ramraj, occurred during the absence of the acting CEO, Dwight Walrond, who was on government duties for a period of three days. “Upon his return, he noticed the issue,” Ramraj added.
Highlighting the seriousness of the matter, Ramraj disclosed that the GLDA has initiated a police investigation into what they suspect to be an act of sabotage. “Our internal investigation has led us to believe it was a sabotage attempt,” he stated.
