GPL successfully installs shields on line towers

The Guyana Power and Light Inc (GPL) said it has successfully installed deterrents and conductor shields on the line towers of the Turkish Power ship to prevent birds from causing blackouts.

This is according to GPL Zone 1 (Berbice) Manager Ravindra Jagnanan, who had explained that the company would be embarking on repairs which included taking out a transmission line and installing deterrents since they were “experiencing a high volume of birds”.

According to him, the same thing was occurring on some Guyana Telephone and Telegraph towers. He explained that vultures were flocking the lines in the mornings and evenings and when it rains resulting in trips in the line.
