Man remanded over stabbing attack on duo who went to rescue woman being beaten

Jason Lespor, a 34-year-old porter of Lot 56 James Street, Albouystown, Georgetown was on Wednesday remanded to prison on charges of attempted murder and inflicting grievous bodily harm to two men who went to the rescue of a woman he was beating.

According to the facts of the case the offences were committed against Leroy Goriah, 46, of Lot 31 Ketley Street, Albouystown, Georgetown and Alonzo Mc Lean, 48, a horse cart operator, of Lot 20 Independence Boulevard, Georgetown on May 25, 2024 at about 9 pm at High Bridge, La Penitence, Georgetown, in the vicinity of GT Bar.

Initial investigations revealed that the victims were at the GT Bar drinking when they observed the suspect beating his girlfriend, a 29-year-old security guard outside of the bar, on the High Bridge. They intervened to help the woman and the suspect drew a knife from his pants waist and dealt them several stabs about their bodies before making good his escape on foot in an eastern direction.

The victims were picked up by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), where they were seen, examined, and admitted.

Goriah sustained five stabs to his back measuring about six inches each, one to the right side of his chest causing his right lung to collapse, and several stabs to his right hand, while Mc Lean suffered one stab wound to the left side of his upper back in the vicinity of his shoulder.

Both victims were later discharged from the GPH. Goriah, who was discharged on June 4th is at home recovering slowly. According to him, he’s still critical because he’s still unable to move around. He can’t do much for himself.

Lespor appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates Court before Magistrate Annette Singh where the charges were read to him. He pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison until July 17th.
