A vagrant was killed early Saturday evening during an argument with a man over the man’s missing brother.

Dead is Munilad Persaud, also known as Roach.

According to a police press release, the 33-year-old suspect, a sales assistant at a prominent business entity, has since been arrested and is assisting with investigations. The release said the suspect told investigators that his 35-year-old brother is a drug addict with no fixed place of abode who was often found around the Stabroek Market area in Georgetown.

The suspect further told police that at around 5 pm on Saturday he visited the Stabroek Market in search of his brother but could not find him. He did, however, encounter Persaud on Water Street, behind the Fire Station, and paid him $2,500 in cash to search for his brother.

The police heard that about 30 minutes later, Persaud returned and informed the suspect that he was unable to locate his brother. According to the release, a heated argument ensued between the two men, during which the suspect allegedly picked up a piece of wood from the ground and struck Persaud once on the chest.

The victim then took a few steps forward and fell to the ground motionless after which time the suspect caught a speedboat from Georgetown Ferry Stelling and travelled to Vreed-en-Hoop, where he was arrested by police. The release said Emergency Medical Technicians were summoned to the scene, and Dr Durga of the Georgetown Public Hospital pronounced Persaud dead.

Investigations are currently ongoing.
