Camptown and Vengy recorded comfortable wins when the Georgetown Football Association Senior Men’s League continued last night at the National Training Centre, Providence, East Bank Demerara.
Camptown bested the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) 3-1. Orto Jones recorded the only conversion of the first half as he etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 12th minute. Upon the resumption, GFC equalised in the form of Lemar Phillips, who netted in the 54th minute.
However, two goals in the space of 10 minutes sealed the win for Camptown. Ozeal Small made his presence felt in the 70th minute to restore the Campbellville-based outfit’s lead, before Marlon Bethel made his presence felt with an 80th-minute conversion.
Meanwhile, Vengy defeated the Northern Rangers by an identical score. Bryan Evans opened the scoring for the eventual victor in the 17th minute, before Carlos Escobar doubled their advantage two minutes later. The score-line remained unchanged entering the halftime break.
The Northern Rangers eventually reduced the deficit in the 56th minute via a Kevon Powell strike. However, the result was then sealed as Andre Hinds scored in the 83rd minute.
The winner of the event will pocket $500,000 and the championship trophy, while the second, third, and fourth-place finishers will receive $300,000, $200,000, and $100,000, respectively, and the corresponding accolade.
The event will continue today at the same venue with another round of matches.
