KFC Elite League

Defending champion, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), solidified their position atop the standings in the KFC Elite League, disarming Anns Grove 4-1 on Saturday evening at the National Training Centre, Providence, East Bank Demerara.

Following the unlikely 2-2 stalemate between second-place Slingerz FC and Monedderlust in the earlier fixture, the army unit capitalised on the outcome, securing the early advantage via an Obumchi Benjamin strike in the 10th minute.

GDF then doubled the lead in the 39th minute as Kelsey Benjamin made his presence felt.

The score remained unchanged heading into the halftime interval. Moments into the resumption of the play, the army side increased their advantage as Colin Nelson found the back of the net in the 46th minute.

The East Coast Demerara outfit eventually pulled one back in the 72nd minute, as Travis Williams found the back of the net. Nonetheless, the scoreline was then sealed as Delroy Fraser made his presence felt with a conversion in the 85th minute.

Due to the outcome, the undefeated GDF side climbed atop the standings on 28 points, while Anns Grove remained in the eighth position on 11 points. The event continues on Thursday at the same venue with another round of matches.
