– 27-member squad to be selected tomorrow
Guyana’s national men’s rugby team, the ‘Green Machine’, has suffered a major blow in terms of injury to one of their important players, in the form of Godfrey Pollydore.
Stabroek Sports was able to confirm this development through Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) President Ryan Dey.
However, their preparation for the upcoming Rugby Americas North (RAN) 15s return leg against Trinidad and Tobago will remain the same, according to team captain Jamal Angus.
He believes that the wealth of talent at the national side’s disposal is more than enough to fill that gap.
While Pollydore was instrumental in sealing Guyana’s last gasp win with a game-saving tackle mere yards from the touch line, the Guyanese will head into Saturday’s (June 22) upcoming game full of belief.
With the fifth and final trial match done and dusted yesterday at the National Park, the initial 27-man squad will be selected tomorrow, after which they will head into encampment ahead of the game at the Camp Ayanganna ground.
After encampment, on match day, the squad will then be whittled down to 23, which comprises the 15 starters and 8 substitutes. A win for Guyana will mean that they move on to the final of the south zone of the RAN 15s Championship.
