Tertiary Basketball League II

The Linden Technical Institute (LTI) and the University of Guyana (UG) will play in the final of the Tertiary Basketball League II after contrasting victories in the respective semi-finals on Sunday night at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

LTI thrashed the Guyana School of Agriculture (GSA) by 51 points while UG fended off a challenge from the Government Technical Institute (GTI) to eventually win 60-44.

In semifinal one, LTI in the absence of GSA’s leading scorer in the tournament, Shannon Wilson, took command of the game, sprinting out to a daunting 24-3 lead early on in the game.

Kimol Grimmond (in yellow) was LTI’s leading scorer with 32 points and helped his side to the final with a 89-38 win over GSA.

Undefeated in their six games thus far, LTI romped to an eventual 89-38 points victory.

Kimol Grimmond was the ring leader for LTI in the thrashing, sinking a game high 32 points and grabbing five rebounds. He got good support from Neil Marks (15 points, 6 assists, 8 rebounds), Colin Phillips (20 points) and Leron Joseph (12 points,  10 rebounds).

For the losers, Cadasie Fraser had 16 points and 7 rebounds to be the only GSA player in double figures.

Meanwhile in semifinal two, GTI conceded defeat and much like GSA, were without their star player in Martin Edwards. Despite the latter’s absence, GTI refused to roll over and only the brilliance of UG’s Jushawn Bailey guided his side to victory.

Bailey scored just over two-thirds of his team’s total, netting 41 points,  12 rebounds and six steals in a masterful performance. He got support from Malachi Grimmond who got 17 points and snatched five rebounds.

GTI’s Jamal Mercier and Peter Langevine turned in valiant efforts but to no avail. Mercier recorded 10 points and 10 rebounds while Langevine had 8 points and a game high 16 rebounds.

The finals will be played next Sunday (June 23) at 8 pm at the same venue.

The Tertiary League is sponsored by Youth Basketball Guyana, G-boats GY, and Edward B Beharry.
