The police in Berbice are investigating the murder of a Stanleytown man who was found with multiple injuries on Monday morning along the East Bank Berbice public road.
Dead is Tyrone France, 28, unemployed of 42 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam.
According to the police, France’s body was found on Monday at about 10.30 am along the public road at Heathburn Village, East Bank Berbice.
Stabroek News was told that France was at a BBQ in the area imbibing with several others the night before where an argument suddenly ensued. He eventually moved to another location in the community.
Based on information gathered from a source, it is suspected that France was struck multiple times.
Commander of Region Six, Shivpersaud Bacchus yesterday confirmed that five persons were in custody.
Bacchus said that on Monday morning after the discovery three persons “who were imbibing with the victim, and additionally two persons this (Tuesday) morning based on intelligence gathering were … taken into police custody as the investigation continues.”
The commander said that there were several wounds about the deceased’s body.
He continued, “Whether it’s a cutlass, a piece of wood, some piece of device was used.”
A post-mortem examination is expected to be done before the end of the week so as to determine the cause of France’s death.
