Gov’t pumps $7M into Aliann Pompey Invitational

The Government of Guyana, through the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport, has seen fit to make their largest ever investment into sports, handing over a whopping $7 million towards the Aliann Pompey Invitational (API) scheduled for Saturday at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora.

This edition is included as part of the World Athletics Continental Tour and will give international athletes a final window for direct qualification to the Paris Olympic Games, with the cut-off date for qualification set for June 30.

At the handover of the sponsorship. Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr pointed out that the prestigious event aligns with President Irfaan Ali’s ambitions of Guyana emerging as a host for premier international sports events.
