Berbice Chamber raises range of issues with police

Commander of Regional Police Division #6, Senior Superintendent Shivpersaud Bacchus, was engaged in a meeting on Wednesday with members of the Berbice Chamber of Commerce and Development Association (BCCDA), during which several pertinent issues were raised and discussed.

The meeting, held at the BCCDA’s office in New Amsterdam, was chaired by  Samantha Reid, a businesswoman and President of the Berbice Chamber, a release from the police said.

Some of the issues and concerns raised relate to:

1. Parking and Traffic congestion in New Amsterdam

2. CCTV cameras

3. Tinted motor vehicles

4. Businesses operating both liquor and grocery stores

5. Security personnel at business locations

6. Restocking of goods at business places

7. Vending on the road shoulders

8. Unlicensed liquor premises, off-licence, and other related issues

9. Youth development and partnership

All the issues and concerns were addressed by Commander Bacchus and his team, which included Assistant Superintendent Rawle Nedd and Assistant Superintendent Charles Hooke, the release from the police said.

Bacchus shared details about the Men on Mission (MOM) initiative and the collaboration efforts being undertaken with the BCCDA. He noted that the programme aims to adopt vulnerable youths from various communities, providing them with academic and other support to enhance their well-being.

Dionne Joseph, Berbice Branch Manager of Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA), enlightened the group on the issuance and procedure related to licences.
