Guyana needs a vibrant opposition

Dear Editor,

All democracies need a vibrant opposition to thrive. In the UK, the Tories are about to experience the thrill of being on the opposite benches after 14 years. Guyana needs an active opposition to prevent autocracy. One part of it is currently headless – did I miss my friend Ramjattan’s resignation or was it of so little significance it went unreported? – And the major partner, the PNC, is about to self-immolate to headlessness. Like in the UK, you could not make it up. Could you?

Sincerely,

John ‘Bill Cotton/Reform’ Mair
