-Slingerz tames Tigers to keep pace

Defending champion and undefeated outfit, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), solidified their position atop the standings in the KFC Elite League, brushing aside Den Amstel 3-0 last evening at the National Training Centre, Providence, East Bank Demerara.

Kelsey Benjamin opened the scoring in the 34th minute, while Ryan Hackett doubled their lead in the 57th minute. The result was then sealed in the form of Stephen McDonald, who found the back of the net in the 60th minute.

Due to the outcome, the army moved onto 31 points, while Den Amstel remained in the seventh position on 12 points. The event continues tomorrow at the same venue with another round of matches.

Meanwhile, second-placed Slingerz maintained their pace in pursuit of the title as they caged the Western Tigers 6-2. Kemar Bedford tallied a hat-trick in the 32nd, 41st, and 68th minutes, while Marcus Tudor, Sheldon Holder, and Bryan Wharton scored in the 36th, 87th, and 89th minutes apiece.

On the other side, Andrew Murray and Jermaine Beckles netted in the 28th and 66th minutes, respectively. With the win, Slingerz moved onto 29 points. On the other hand, the Western Tigers outfit remains in sixth place with 15 points.
