Sales assistant charged with murdering man on Water St

Anand Zaimoon

Thirty-three-year-old Anand Zaimoon of Lot 16 Plantain Walk, Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara, appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus yesterday at the George-town Magistrate’s Court where he was charged with murder.

It was alleged that on June 15, at Water Street, Georgetown, he murdered Munilad Persaud.

The prosecutor told the court that on the day in question at around 18:30 hours, Persaud was on Water Street when Zaimoon approached him and asked for his brother. Zaimoon then gave Persaud $2,500 and again asked his brother. Persaud then flew into a rage and began hurling insults at Zaimoon, who responded by picking up a piece of wood and striking Persaud in the abdomen, causing him to fall to the ground.
