On Thursday, Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill, along with Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Deodat Indar, met with stakeholders of the Demerara Harbour Bridge Cor-poration (DHBC) to address issues arising from the increased traffic of vessels in the Demerara River.
The meeting comes in the wake of two barges hitting the bridge but not causing major damage. In the past, similar incidents have resulted in major damage to the structure.
A release from the Ministry of Public Works said that the ministers were joined by Wayne Watson, General Manager of DHBC, and Stephen Thomas, Director General of the Mari-time Administration Department (MARAD). Several issues were brought to the forefront during the meeting, particularly focusing on safety concerns.
