After much uncertainty surrounding the hosting of their return fixture against Trinidad and Tobago in the Rugby Americas North (RAN), South Zone Men’s 15’s Championships, Guyana’s national rugby team, the “Green Machine”, will be looking for victory today at the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Ground, Camp Ayanganna.
With kick-off slated for 3PM, the team led by a determined Jamal Angus, will be looking to replicate their win against the Trinidadians in Port of Spain and even go better.
While a defeat by any margin greater than a point will mean the end of Guyana’s RAN South Zone 15s campaign, the side has been putting in the work through practice sessions and a series of trial matches.
Ahead of today’s match, Stabroek News received the official starting list for the game.
Notably absent is Godfrey Pollydore who was injured just last weekend, however, hat-trick hero Rondell McArthur is still in the line up while the talented Tyrese Prescod steps in.
Speaking to Stabroek Sports last evening, Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) President Ryan Dey revealed that the requisite $2.5 million needed for the hosting of today’s match was secured.
With one eye on the weather, Dey also noted that the GRFU has been closely working along with GDF ranks to get the ground ready.
President Irfaan Ali is expected to be in attendance.
