Decomposed body of D&I worker found in West Canje swamp

The decomposed body of Dharmindra Sarabjit, a 57-year-old drainage and irrigation worker was yesterday found at about 12:15 hours in a swamp with thick vegetation.

Enquiries revealed that Sarabjit was a regular imbiber of alcohol, and at about 07.00 hours on June 17, he left home to visit a friend but failed to return home. On June 19 at about 08.30 hours, his daughter, Amrita Mahadeo, made a missing person’s report for her father after conducting numerous searches for him without success.

According to the police, at about 11.45 hours yesterday, the Operations Room received an anonymous call informing of a body located in a swamp area at Vryheid Village, West Canje, Berbice.    

Ranks attended the area in Vryheid Village yesterday at about 12.15 hours and discovered the body in stage three of decomposition, in a swamp with thick vegetation.

The deceased was identified by his 32-year-old daughter, Mahadeo. The body is at the Bailey’s Funeral Home where it awaits a post-mortem examination as the investigation continues.
