Tremor felt in Georgetown, other parts

An earth tremor was felt in Georgetown and other parts of the country at around 11.59 PM last night. The shaking lasted for about 10 seconds and is believed to have radiated outwards from a seismic event in the Caribbean.

The US Geological Survey put the quake at 6.0 on the Richter Scale and occurring 29 km north east of Yaguaraparo, Venezuela.

Reuters reported that an earthquake of magnitude 6.2 struck near the coast of Venezuela last night, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ).

The quake was at a depth of 93 km (57.79 miles), GFZ said.

The UWI Seismic Research Centre said the earthquake was 96 km WNW of Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago on 2024-06-22 at 11:58 PM AST. Its magnitude was 6.2.
