Kwakwani and Colts will contest the II grail final of the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association’s Men’s U-23 Championship following semifinal wins on Saturday evening at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue.
Kwakwani clipped Ravens by a 102-60 score. Kimol Grimmond led the rout with 24 points, while Kadeem Dover was the next best scorer with 20 points. Supporting them with 15 and 10 points each were Royan Shortt and Kellon Phillips. On the other side, Alroy Nurse and Omar Headley scored 13 and eight points apiece. Kwakwani seized control of the contest as the first period ended 23-15. Their marginal advantage was extended in the second quarter as they outshot Ravens 16-15 to enter the halftime interval ahead at 39-30.
However, the contest quickly became lopsided in the third stanza as Kwakwani netted 30 points while restricting Ravens to 11 to enter the fourth quarter in control at 69-41. The win was then sealed as Kwakwani outplayed their opponent in the fourth period, as they netted an impressive 33 points while restricting their opponent to 19 points.
Similarly, Colts crushed Kobras 61-46. The trio of Carmelo Mon-Son-Hing, Domitri Rankin, and Shemol Williams scored 13, 12, and 10 points, respectively. For the loser, Elijah David tallied 23 points.
Leading 24-17 at the end of the first quarter, Colts marginally increased their lead as they outscored Kobras 12-9 to enter the halftime interval in control at 36-26.
Their double-digit advantage was maintained in the third stanza at 47-37 as both teams netted 11 points. The win was then sealed in the fourth period as they outpaced their foe 14-9.
The two teams will face off for the championship on Saturday, June 29th, at the same venue. The losers will compete in the third-place playoff.
