South Ruimveldt house gutted, two taken to hospital

A fire of unknown origin yesterday gutted a house in South Ruimveldt, close to the Exit. According to reports, two occupants from the building were rescued and taken to the hospital after complaining of smoke inhalation.

Stabroek News spoke with Fire Chief Gregory Wickham last night and he related that the fire tenders that were summoned were able to extinguish the fire.

“The fire was extinguished. Two occupants of the property had to be taken to the hospital because they were asthmatic and they were (saying)  that they inhaled smoke. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined,” he stated.

Two nearby houses were also scorched during the blaze and one of the occupants of these houses reported that he quickly grabbed his two children and fled the house after seeing the blaze next door. Others in the area reported seeing one male occupant running from the house which was ablaze, shouting “fire, fire!”
