The second edition of the Tertiary Basketball League (TBL II) concluded on Sunday night at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue, and saw the Linden Technical Institute (LTI) stay unbeaten with a testing 79-70 win over the University of Guyana (UG) Trojans.

LTI’s Kimol Grimmond, who was on song for the majority of the league, rightly earned the Most Valuable Player (MVP) Accolade after once again leading the way for his team in their title push.

Despite being provided with a stern test from the UG outfit, LTI held firm and Grimmond’s 17 points, 11 rebounds and six assists proved to be the catalyst for his side’s victory in the end.

While Grimmond’s contributions were invaluable, his effort was well complemented by Stephen George, Leron Joseph and Neil Marks, who all had consistent performances throughout the tournament as well.

George also had 17 points with five rebounds while Joseph snuck in 12 points to go with his 11 rebounds. Marks on the other hand netted 12 points and grabbed five rebounds.

Meanwhile, UG’s Jushawn Bailey was once again the driving force behind his side scoring a game high  38 points while gathering six rebounds and stealing the opponents’ ball on six occasions.

Bailey received support from Malachi Grimmond (19 Points, 8 Rebounds) but it was too little as no one else really stood up.

For their winning effort, LTI received $125,000 along with a trophy and medals while the runners-up, UG, collected $75,000 to go with a trophy and medals. LTI’s Grimmond also pocketed $30,000 and a trophy for his individual MVP award.

The tournament which was organised by Youth Basketball Inc, received sponsorship from Edward B. Beharry Ltd  and G-Boats GY.
