Circuitville and Soesdyke recorded contrasting victories when the East Bank Demerara Senior Men’s League continued on Sunday at the National Training Centre, Providence.
Circuitville overcame a two-goal first-half deficit to defeat Swan 3-2. Mark Loncke had initially provided the ideal start to the contest for Swan following a first-half double. He opened the scoring in the fifth minute before completing his brace in the 28th minute.
However, the come-from-behind victory commenced in the 53rd minute as Nikosi Morris found the back of the net. Parity was then restored to proceedings in the 60th minute as Marcus Henry made his presence felt.
The come-from-behind win was then realised in the 65th minute, as Shumar Schultz etched his name on the scorer’s sheet. It was the first win in the event for Circuitville, as they climbed onto three points and remain in fourth place in group A. On the other hand, Swan remain in third place on three points following their second loss of the competition. Meanwhile, Soesdyke defeated Friendship All-Stars via walkover after the latter failed to take the playing area at the stipulated time. Due to the outcome, Soesdyke soared to the top of the group B standings with seven points, while Friendship remained pointless in the cellar position.
The competition continues on Sunday at the same venue with another round of matches. The other competing teams are: Timehri United, Diamond United, Panthers, Pakuri, Agricola, and Herstelling. At the conclusion of the group stage, the top two teams from each section will advance to the semifinal round, which will eventually decide the winner of the tournament.
