Police at about 1.15 am yesterday acted on information received and went to the Children and Family Centre located at Plum Park, South Sophia, where contact was made with a 41-year-old security guard and resident of ‘E’ Field Sophia.
A search was carried out on his person, and one Smith and Wesson .40 pistol with one magazine and four live .40 rounds of ammunition were found in the crotch of his pants.
The security guard was asked if he had a licence to carry the firearm, and he said no. He was then told of the offences committed, cautioned, arrested and escorted to the Alberttown Police Station, where the firearm and ammunition were marked and placed into an evidence bag, sealed and lodged.
The security guard remains in custody pending charges.
