A 26-year-old male is currently in custody after he had told investigators what actually transpired regarding the discovery of the decomposed body of Dharmindra Sarabjit, a 57-year-old drainage and irrigation worker whose body was found on June 22 in a swamp, Regional Commander, Shivpersaud Bacchus told the Stabroek News yesterday
He also informed that the post-mortem examination which was conducted by Dr Bridgemohan, gave the cause of death as a fractured skull. The deceased also had a wound on his arm. An intense investigation was conducted and the suspect gave investigators his account of what had happened. The file is currently with the Crime Chief for review.
Enquiries revealed that Sarabjit left home at about 07.00 hours on June 17, to visit a friend but failed to return home. On June 19 at about 08.30 hours, his daughter, Amrita Mahadeo, made a missing person’s report for her father after conducting numerous searches for him without success.
According to the police, at about 11.45 hours on June 22, the Operations Room received an anonymous call informing of a body located in a swamp area at Vryheid Village, West Canje, Berbice.
Ranks attended the area in Vryheid Village at about 12.15 hours and discovered the body in stage three of decomposition, in a swamp with thick vegetation.
The deceased was identified by his daughter.
