The Golden Jaguars have climbed one spot to secure the 153rd position following the official publication of the June FIFA Men’s Rankings Table.

The team climbs to 1026.61 points, which is a 6.61 increase from their previous tally of 1020.

Statistically, Guyana in 2024 boasts a record of two wins and four losses. Guyana defeated Cambodia 4-1 and Belize 3-1, but suffered defeats against Cape Verde [0-1], Trinidad and Tobago [1-2, 0-2], and Panama [0-2].

At the moment, they are currently sandwiched between 152nd-ranked Moldova and 154th-placed Eswatini. The Golden Jaguar’s best ever ranking was 86th, which was achieved in 2010, while their worst position was 185th in 2004.

Overall, Guyana’s average ranking has been 151st. The Golden Jaguars have an opportunity to significantly improve their current status when they make their debut in League A of the CONCACAF Nations League in September.

Guyana will resume their historic rivalry with neighbouring Suriname as they open their campaign against the Dutch-speaking nation in Group A on September 5th.

The Golden Jaguars will then face off with Martinique four days later. In their October encounters, Guyana faces off against Guatemala on the 11th before ending their group campaign against Suriname four days onward.

The top two finishers from the group, which also comprises Costa Rica and Guadeloupe, will advance to the quarterfinal section in November.

The FIFA Men’s World Ranking, which was introduced in 1992, is a mechanism that was created to rank the competing nations in association football. Argentina is the number-ranked nation. The teams are ranked based on their respective game results in full FIFA-recognised international matches.

Eight countries, notably Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain, have held the top spot. Since August 2018, the ranking system has adopted the Elo rating structure, which is used in chess and is based on the strengths of the competing parties.
