-victim accepts compensation
Twenty-five-year-old Quincy Smith, a former member of the Guyana Defence Force, appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday where he was charged with larceny, to which he pleaded guilty.
It was alleged that on June 24, at Hadfield Street, Georgetown, he stole US$485 and TT$6 from Linden Andries.
Andries told the court that he and Smith were going to settle the matter and that he had given Smith six weeks to bring the money in four parts.
The magistrate then asked the prosecutor if there were any objections to Smith being placed on self-bail, to which he responded in the negative.
Smith’s sister was present in court with a part payment for Andries.
Magistrate McGusty asked Andries why he wanted to settle the matter and he responded that he is a father of six and understands that Smith is now the father of a one-month-old baby. Given the circumstances, he decided to settle the matter.
Smith then asked the court for one month to pay the balance of the money, to which the magistrate agreed.
The matter was adjourned to July 26, for report and further compensation.
