A Sheet Anchor Village, East Canje Berbice labourer yesterday pleaded guilty to having in his possession an illegal firearm and was remanded to prison until he returns to court for sentencing.
Rashane Pellew, 26, a labourer of Lot 24 Sheet Anchor Village, East Canje Berbice was yesterday charged with having in his possession one 9 mm pistol without being the holder of a licence.
After pleading guilty to the offence, Pellew was remanded to prison and will return to court on July, 5 for sentencing.
Police had said that an intel-led ‘Eyes in the Sky’ and ‘Cordon and Search’ operation was held in the Central Police Station District in Berbice between 05:30 hrs and 06:11 hrs on 2024-06-25, during which a 9mm firearm was found.
The Police team, led by the Regional Divisional Detective Officer for Region Six, went to Lot 24 Sheet Anchor Village, East Canje Berbice, where contact was made with Delcina Lampkin, a 31-year-old businesswoman.
Delcina was informed as to the reason for the police presence’s, and she agreed to a search being conducted in and around the two-storey building. “As the search commenced, police ranks observed a male exiting a window on the upper flat of the house. The man jumped from the upper flat to the lower flat and ran towards the back fence. Ranks gave chase and the man was apprehended.”
He was identified as Pellew, a 26-year-old labourer of the said address. “A search was conducted and a black 9MM pistol with one magazine was found. Ranks brought this to Pellew’s attention, and he was told of the offence committed, caution and arrested A further search was conducted in the home (lower and upper flats), including a room where Pellew was seen exiting. A female was seen in the room, along with eight cell phones. Pellew, along with three other persons from the home, were all arrested and escorted to Central Police Station. Police also took possession of the firearm and the cell phones.”
